LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - During his weekly press conference, Gov. Beshear declared a state of emergency following the crash of UPS 2976 on Tuesday.
A state of emergency declaration allows for access of state funds for disasters.
UPS 2976 was headed to Honolulu when it crashed shortly after takeoff at 5:15 p.m. at Muhammad Ali International Airport. The plane crashed into two businesses, creating a catastrophic explosion. Nine people have been killed, 11 people have been hurt and the governor told the media that he expects that total will increase. 16 different families have reported loved ones unaccounted at the reunification center.
Beshear advised those near the crash zone to avoid drinking water as a precaution, though he added air pollution levels in the area are not cause for conce
