KALAMAZOO, Mich. — An Oshtemo Township firefighter known for his drive to help others was killed in a motorcycle crash early Wednesday morning.
Oshtemo Township Fire Chief Gregory McComb said firefighter Charlie Sullivan served the community "with pride and compassion."
"His commitment to helping others, both in and out of uniform, exemplified the very best of what it means to be a firefighter," McComb wrote.
The crash happened in the 2400 block of Parkview Avenue just after midnight. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said responding officers found a motorcycle engulfed in flames. Sullivan was unresponsive.
Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
