LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - In recognition of National Diabetes Awareness Month, the American Red Cross is offering free A1C screenings for blood donors throughout November.
The A1C test screens for diabetes and prediabetes by measuring a person’s average blood sugar level over the past three months.
No fasting is required, but the Red Cross recommends donors eat a nutritious meal before their appointment.
To receive A1C results, donors must complete a successful blood, platelet, or plasma donation and must not have received an A1C result with a donation in the past 12 months.
Samples will be collected during donation and sent to a laboratory for routine testing.
