MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - There’s a new member to the Roosevelt Park Zoo—a baby giraffe!

Born at 10 p.m. Sunday to proud parents of Kianga and Kioni, the newborn weighs 145 pounds.

The zoo said giraffes are going through a silent extinction with fewer than 117,000 remaining in the wild.

At birth, the babies are already six feet tall and can grow up to three centimeters per day.

The little calf hasn’t been named yet, and guests will soon be able to meet it and its parents up close in the African Plains Building.
