MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - The Kenmare Police Chief resigned late last month , and that left the city with no other officers on staff to police the town of some 900 citizens.

Ward County is doing its part to keep the streets of Kenmare safe.

Sheriff Bob Roed said it’s typical to see deputies in the area.

Roed explained their jurisdiction is the entire county, including the county’s so-called gooseneck, with Kenmare at the top.

“Small communities with small departments rely on us to help them out, and the communities with no police departments, we’ve always been their police departments,” said Roed.

Roed said the lack of local police in Kenmare doesn’t really change their schedules, and deputies are including the town in their patrols, as usual.
