MADISON (WKOW) — The Wisconsin State Patrol is emphasizing the importance of safe driving practices to protect emergency responders.
The November Law of the Month highlights the critical need for drivers to move over or slow down when approaching flashing lights on highways.
“When you see lights flashing ahead, no matter the color, please move over or slow down to create a safe workspace for emergency responders,” said Wisconsin State Patrol Superintendent Tim Carnahan.
Over the past five years, 73 emergency responders have been struck while working on Wisconsin roads. The Move Over Law requires drivers to change lanes away from stopped emergency vehicles with activated lights. If unable to move, drivers must slow down.
