Four Broward County students were hospitalized Wednesday after eating snacks laced with an unknown substance at Margate Middle School, prompting an emergency response and district investigation.
Margate police said they believe the students ate marijuana-laced gummies.
"That's devastating, as me having kids as well as picking up my niece. It could have been anyone, your sister, your brother," said one parent who did not want to be identified.
More students exposed, officials say
Authorities said additional students were exposed. Four were taken to the hospital, while others were released to their parents.
School and district administrators are working with police to identify the source of the laced snacks at the magnet school, which serves grades 6–8.
