Alberta’s superior court has ordered an Edmonton man who punched, kicked and painfully restrained his dog to report to jail after rejecting his bid to serve his sentence in the community.

Court of King’s Bench Justice Melanie Hayes-Richards on Tuesday issued her decision in the appeal of Abraham Daniel Abraham, who was sentenced to 120 days in jail followed by two years of probation for causing unnecessary pain and suffering to his dog, Simba.

An Alberta Court of Justice judge found Abraham abused Simba on two occasions, punching him in the head, kicking him in the hindquarters and tying him to a post so he could not sit or lay down.

When a neighbour tried to intervene, Abraham’s family posted a sign on the fence that read “Beware Nosey Neighbours.”
