CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) - A Carbondale man has been arrested in connection with a house fire on Tuesday.
According to the Carbondale Police Department, officers were called to the 300 block of W. Cherry Street for a possible arson in progress at around 11:20 p.m. on November 4.
When they arrived, the officers found a piece of furniture on fire next to the exterior of the house, with the flames spreading to the home.
Police said the family inside, which included several small children, was immediately evacuated while the Carbondale Fire Department arrived to finish extinguishing the fire.
During the investigation, officers arrested 30-year-old Jory L. Brown for aggravated arson. Brown was placed in the custody of the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing.
