LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Medicare open enrollment season has arrived, bringing with it a wave of scammer calls targeting seniors.

When you answer a spam call, it may sound like you’re speaking to a Medicare professional or government agency. The caller may attempt to falsely help you sign up for a new Medicare plan by asking for personal information like your Social Security Number and bank details.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, “consumers reported losing more than $12.5 billion to fraud in 2024, which represents a 25% increase over the prior year.”

Jackson County residents report receiving dozens of spam calls daily from people claiming to be Medicare professionals. James Kulas, a Jackson resident, says he receives constant calls.
