ST. PAUL, Minn. (GRAY) – Minnesota has had a record-tying six special elections in 2025, with the two most recent having taken place on Tuesday night.
Successful bids from two current House members mean there will be two more special elections, though likely not before the end of the year.
Republican Michael Holmstrom Jr. and DFLer Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger each won a State Senate race Tuesday night, bringing the Minnesota Senate back to a 34-33 DFL majority—the same margin the party held last year.
Hemmingsen-Jaeger, a member of the House of Representatives, and fellow House-DFLer Kaohly Her, now the mayor-elect of St. Paul, will vacate their respective seats to serve their new roles.
The two vacancies bring the House from a 67-67 tie into a 67-65 Republican Majority.
