GRAND MARAIS, Minn. (Northern News Now) - A woman was rescued from Lake Superior last weekend after being swept off a pier in Grand Marais.
Chris Carlson was fishing in the Grand Marais harbor on Sunday when he saw a group of people walking out to the lighthouse. He says consistent southeast winds were pushing waves up and over the pier.
“I was about 40 yards away when it happened, and I was walking up to try to yell for them to stop, but the wind and the waves was too loud to hear,” Carlson said.

He watched as three people were swallowed by a massive wave, leaving only two remaining.
