BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - As SNAP benefits continue to be withheld during the government shutdown, businesses and organizations across Maine have stepped up to help.
That includes Moe’s Original Barbecue, which handed out 100 family meals to anyone in the community free of charge on Wednesday at their Bangor and Scarborough locations.
The plan for the Bangor restaurant was to hand out those meals from 9:00-11:00 a.m.
But Moe’s says that at 8:00 a.m. their parking lot was full of people, and within 20 minutes, they had fed approximately 400 people.
“It was just a great feeling. It really was. There was a lot of tears out there and there was a lot of very thankful people. And it felt good,” said Misty McAlexander, the Front of House Manager for Moe’s Original BBQ in Bangor.
