SAN FRANCISCO — Toyota Motor Corporation more than 1 million vehicles due to a software issue with the rearview cameras, causing them to not work properly.
The issue may cause the rearview camera to freeze or display a blank screen while the vehicle is in reverse, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration wrote in the
"A rearview camera that fails to display an image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash," the NHTSA wrote.
Toyota says customers with impacted vehicles can go to Toyota and Lexus dealers to get the Panoramic View Monitor system’s Parking Assist ECU software updated at no cost.
Impacted owners will be notified by the end of the year.
