HOUSTON COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - Mission Tejas State Park is preparing for it’s reopening this weekend. It was under renovation for three years.
The headquarters and visitors building were built in 2019. Inside, new displays are now installed. The park’s newest addition is a donation from SFA, an 1885 cypress log canoe.
“It’s kind of a dugout canoe. It’s more flat. It was used in Texas and Louisiana, so we have that on display. As well, we got to pick up a lot of their old forestry tools,” said park supervisor Josh Diamond.
The $3 million renovation was funded by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and TxDOT. The park had a ‘soft-opening’ over the weekend after the three-year renovation, welcoming over 150 guests, according to Diamond. They upgraded power and water systems. In the fir
