Emergency workers attending a flat fire in Merseyside this evening were "targeted and attacked" by youths firing fireworks at them, one female police officer was hit and suffered a leg injury
A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life this evening.
Merseyside Police were called to Knowsley Heights on Primrose Drive following reports youths were directing fireworks at a block of flats. Firefighters rushed to the scene and extinguished a fire on a third-floor balcony, but while emergency services were at the scene fireworks were fired towards them.
As a result a female police officer was hit and suffered a minor injury to her leg. Chief Inspector Kevin Chatterton branded the behaviour as "disgraceful" and said "It is only by sheer good fortun
