As the government shutdown continues and concerns grow over potential disruptions to SNAP benefits, community organizations across North Alabama are stepping up to make sure no one goes hungry.
One of those groups is Feeding Families of Alabama, a nonprofit based out of Mount Tabor Church in Hartselle. The group operates a food pantry on the second Monday of every month, and November’s event is expected to draw record crowds.
“The phone has rung nonstop,” said Edee Grun, Executive Director of Feeding Families of Alabama. “It has been ‘pleas’ for help.”
Grun says hundreds of families already rely on their pantry each month, and many arrive hours before doors even open. “We have people actually parking in line at 3 a.m. They wait for hours on a normal pantry day,” Grun said.
