BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Jimmie Hale Mission is ready to open its first warming station of the season this weekend.

Plans were finalized Wednesday for the Jimmie Hale Mission and Pathways to open warming stations on Sunday and Monday evening, according to Perryn Carroll, the executive director of the Jimmie Hale Mission in downtown Birmingham.

The temperature must drop to 32 degrees or below for the warming stations to open their doors to those in need of a warm place to stay overnight. Dangerously cold air moving into central Alabama poses a risk to those used to living outdoors. Temperatures are forecast to drop into the 20s in central Alabama early next week.
