VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Alabama State Board of Education is launching a new teacher recruitment campaign.
Eric Mackey, the state superintendent, made the announcement at Vestavia Hills Elementary Liberty Park on Wednesday. He said early childhood, elementary and special education teachers are needed, especially in rural areas of Alabama.
"If you want to invest in the lives of young people, if you want to do something where you feel every day at the end of the day 'I may be tired, but I know I did something that made a difference in people's lives,' then be a teacher," Mackey said.
Mackey kicked off the sixth annual Thank Alabama Teachers Month on Wednesday. He said it's an opportunity to honor teachers, school staff and bus drivers for everything they do for students.
