FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Moderate to heavy damage was reported in a fire southwest of downtown Fort Wayne on Wednesday.

According to the Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD), firefighters were dispatched to a reported brush fire in the 2200 block of Broadway around 8 p.m.

When the crew arrived on the scene, they say they found an area in the woods along the nearby railroad tracks on fire and saw smoke coming from BTE Storage.

FWFD says a structure fire response was initiated, with crews making an aggressive attack on the fire that had involved several storage units in the building.

Broadway was briefly shut down, so hose lines from nearby hydrants could be utilized.

According to the department, the fire was under control in approximately a half hour.
