SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - On Wednesday night, a ceremony honored the lives of South Dakotans in law enforcement who died in the line of duty.
The 16th annual memorial event drew a crowd at the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls.
The memorial follows the national initiative called Project Blue Light. Families and friends of fallen officers place a single blue light in their window to honor their memory during the holidays.
Bringing the tradition to South Dakota, Project Blue Light remembers the over 70 officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty since 1884.
Each name is read to ensure that they are never forgotten.
