LEDYARD, Conn. — A Ledyard elementary school will be closed Thursday after a fire in a bathroom Wednesday, with a preliminary investigation isolating the cause to the actions of a student, according to district Superintendent Jason Hartling.
The fire happened at Gallup Hill School around 10:55 a.m. Wednesday in a second-floor bathroom. There were no injuries to any students or staff.
Students were dismissed early to allow for cleaning and to assess the air quality.
While the fire was contained to the bathroom, Hartling said smoke impacted parts of the second floor. He noted Wednesday evening that a professional fire restoration team was actively cleaning and sanitizing the affected areas to ensure they are safe before students and staff return.
