WINCHESTER, Connecticut — The residents of Winchester can rest assured knowing the businesses in town that sell tobacco products are doing so responsibly.

On Tuesday, the Winchester Police Department conducted surprise compliance inspections of establishments in town that sell tobacco. When put in the situation, none of the stores sold tobacco to a teenager.

Local police were joined by personnel from the state’s Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program, which operates through the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

According to Winchester police, a total of 13 businesses were inspected to determine compliance with the state law that prevents the sale of cigarettes and/or tobacco products to individuals under the age of 18.
