WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Hundreds of runners united in West Hartford Wednesday to support the victims who survived the catastrophic damage of Hurricane Melissa .

It has been just more than a week since Melissa became the strongest to ever make landfall in Jamaica, leaving a trail of destruction in its path. Some traveled to the country to help, and in Connecticut, people have been collecting resources to send to the families who were affected by it.

“Whatever you have, no matter how small it is, it means a lot to the people of Jamaica who have nothing,” said Andrew Lawrence of the Caribbean Trade Council.

This was the powerful plea that echoed throughout West Hartford in the wake of Melissa, leading to the benefit run for Jamaica with town sportswear store Fleet Feet Wednesday.
