CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The longest government shutdown in history is leaving many families wondering how they’ll pay for their next meal without government assistance programs.
Food Fair Supermarkets President Tim Forth said, “Our customer base, they’re anxious -- whether they’re on SNAP benefits or not -- they’re anxious and wondering when does this end, where is it going to go, what services is it going to affect?”
To fight hunger in West Virginia, Gov. Patrick Morrisey has pledged millions for food banks and pantries. However, for stores like Food Fair, Forth said the uncertainty could become a problem for local businesses.
