BLOOMINGTON ( 25News Now ) - The McLean County Regional Planning Commission is asking for more public input on plans to make Veterans Parkway safer, showing some initial plans.
Leaders with the Reinvent Veterans Parkway project are hoping to add safety features and restructure the road at several intersections.
Senior Transportation Planner Jennifer Sicks said it’s the most dangerous road in the area. According to project leaders, between 2019 and 2023, 16% of all crashes in Bloomington-Normal occurred there, with six of those crashes being fatal.
“We have a disproportionate number of fatalities and serious injuries on Veterans Parkway over the years, with particular emphasis on some of the intersections, primarily Empire Route 9, which is a very complicated intersection,” she said.
