SODA SPRINGS, Calif. —
While the Sierra mostly experienced rain and a wintry mix Wednesday, crews at ski resorts noted that even small amounts of snow are helpful as they gear up for the season.
“It's so great to see that winter is getting kicked off right here,” said Tucker Norred, a spokesperson for Boreal. “We are so excited because we've got our opening day right around the corner.”
Norred said crews have been working since the summer months to prepare, checking chairlifts and other equipment, preparing rental gear, and even setting the cafeteria menu. He said that while Wednesday’s conditions weren’t quite cold enough to start making snow, crews were hopeful next week would allow for it.
"We want those freezing temperatures. Something even below freezing is what we typically like.
