The QS World University Rankings for Asia 2026 were released on Monday, November 3. This year’s list has shown a decline for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. The institute dropped from rank 48 last year to 71.

A closer look at the data from the UK-based ranking agency, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), shows that IIT Bombay has actually improved in most of the parameters considered for the ranking. Scores for employer reputation, papers per faculty, faculty-student ratio, and international student and faculty exchange programmes all went up compared to last year. Academic reputation saw a slight decrease.
