HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Facing annual deficit spending of $2 million, city leaders stressed the need for passage of Issue 11, a 5.9-mill levy increase to be used solely for police, fire and EMS services.

Leading up to Tuesday’s (Nov. 4) election, the city told of being at a “financial crossroads.”

Voters answered the call Tuesday, delivering, according to unofficial Cuyahoga County Board of Elections figures, 1,443 votes (55.6 percent) for Issue 11, and 1,152 (44.4 percent) against.

Reached on Wednesday, a happy Mayor Chuck Brunello, Jr. stated, “I am beyond grateful that our community recognized the value and importance of our safety services and the people who provide them every day.
