BRISTOL, Connecticut — The Bristol Board of Education has voted in favor of the director of security to carry a firearm. District leaders said this move is the first phase of a new security policy.
During a meeting Tuesday night, the board voted to allow the district’s current Director of Security, Mr. Cabelus, the right to carry a firearm. It's a decision officials emphasized is in full compliance with Connecticut state law.
According to district leaders, this move represents the first phase of a new policy that could eventually include the hiring of armed security guards. Under the proposed plan, any future armed guards would need to be retired police officers who left service in good standing.
