ST PAUL, Minn. — Thousands of flights could be canceled at MSP and other airports around the country starting Friday due to the ongoing government shutdown, now the longest in U.S. history.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) says it will cancel 10% of flights in "high volume" markets due to staffing issues. A list released Thursday morning confirms that MSP is one of the 40 major airports potentially impacted by the mass cancellations.
Air traffic controllers have been working unpaid, and some have stopped showing up to work, so the FAA is reducing flights to relieve pressure on the controllers and keep U.S. airspace safe.
