Emergency Medical Technicians helped a Bergen County mother safely deliver a baby in her home Saturday evening.
Avante Nicolls, 33, told NJ Advance Media that when she began feeling contractions early that morning, she initially brushed them off.
“I just slept through it,” she said. “I remained in denial that I was in active labor. I still convinced myself that it was early labor.”
Nicolls, whose pregnancy was nearly full term, said she realized Saturday afternoon that she was going into active labor. She said she hoped to make it to her car and ride to the hospital with her boyfriend and children, but quickly realized she would have to deliver the baby immediately.
Shortly after calling an ambulance, a team of EMTs arrived from Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck at about 5 p.m.
