A police officer hit a fleeing shooting suspect with his patrol car in the Lloyd District on Wednesday night, knocking the man down, the Portland Police Bureau said.

Officers responded to the 400 block of Northeast Hassalo Street at 9:42 p.m. after receiving reports of a naked man “running around holding a handgun,” police said.

Shortly after arriving at the scene, the officers heard a shot fired and spotted the suspect, holding a gun, running on Northeast Grand Avenue near Multnomah Street. One of the officers “used his police vehicle to strike the armed man, knocking him down and causing him to drop the gun,” the Police Bureau said in a statement.
