The Lyon County Commission made the decision to donate 156 wreaths to Wreaths Across America at Maplewood Memorial Lawn, an effort to place wreaths honoring over 2,000 veterans buried in Emporia, during their regular action session Thursday.

The donation included a collective contribution from the county, as well as individual donations from each of the three County Commissioners.

The group behind the project, headed by Scott Burenheide and made up of members from the American Legion Post 5, appeared before the commission to explain the concept and how the success of The Wall That Heals led to their involvement.
