PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Two North Portland schools briefly enacted heightened security measures on Thursday morning after reports of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in the surrounding community, according to Portland Public Schools.
Cesar Chavez School and George Middle School went into a “Secure the Perimeter” protocol, locking exterior doors and keeping all activities indoors, while classes continued as usual. The district said the move was taken “out of an abundance of caution,” and that students and staff remained safe.
Other nearby schools, including Astor, James John, Roosevelt, and Sitton, did not lock down but maintained what the district called “heightened situational awareness.” PPS Security Services deployed staff to those campuses to monitor the situati
