Several North Portland schools were on lockdown as a result of immigration enforcement activities in the area.

César Chávez School, George Middle School and Clarendon Regional Early Learning Academy went into lockdown on Thursday morning, with activities and teaching continuing inside the building as normal, said Candice Grose, a spokesperson with the Portland School district.

Several other schools – including Astor, James John and Sitton elementaries and Roosevelt High – were on alert and monitoring the situation, according to an email the district sent to families and staff in the morning.

“At no time did ICE agents come onto any PPS campuses,” Grose said via email.
