ATLANTA (WSAV) — Major changes are taking off at airports across the country starting Friday, as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) begins enforcing a new mandate requiring high-volume airports to cut flights by up to 10%.
That includes Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the world’s busiest airport.
The FAA said the temporary reductions are due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, which has forced many air traffic controllers and FAA employees to work without pay. Officials say the move is meant to keep the airspace safe and reduce potential congestion as staffing challenges continue.
For travelers, that could mean fewer flight options and potential delays or cancellations ahead of the busy Thanksgiving travel rush.
