A strange crime caught by Connecticut State Police. An attempt to steal a downed highway road sign.

Those big signs you see on the side of the highway - a broken one became the target of two men who have since been arrested.

The bottom line, according to state police, is don’t touch them.

‘It is property of DOT, state property,” Trooper First Class Daniel Hill said.

State police arrested Jonathan Riopelle and Andrew Lampkin for attempting to steal the sign that was on the side of Interstate 91 in Windsor. It was a caller that tipped them off.

“They saw a pickup truck on the side of the road loading up broken DOT signs in the back of the pickup truck,” Hill said.
