An elementary student in Clay County was arrested and accused of bringing a knife on school property.
The 5th grader at Oakleaf Village Elementary was found carrying a pocketknife with a 3-inch blade in her backpack, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies learned the knife was brought to the school on Wednesday.
They interviewed the student, her parents and other students about the matter, and conducted a threat assessment.
They determined there was no lawful reason or authorized purpose for the student to have a knife, so she was arrested and charged with possessing or discharging weapons on school property.
The student was taken to the Duval Detention Center.
