CHARLESTON — The Halloween disappearance of a College of Charleston student has turned from search to recovery, police said.
Charleston police announced late in the afternoon of Nov. 6 that Owen Tillman Kenney, 19, of New Jersey died by suicide at 3:49 a.m. Oct. 31 after he was last seen walking alone onto the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge pedestrian walkway.
Police did not elaborate other than to say the death was “confirmed through direct observation.”
“Our priority has always been and will remain with Owen’s family,” Charleston Police Chief Chito Walker said in a statement. “This is a real case involving a real family living through unimaginable pain, and they deserve compassion, privacy, and support from all of us.”
