JOHNS ISLAND — The coroner has identified the two people who died after a vehicle went off River Road and got stuck upside down and submerged in a creek.
Johns Island residents Curtis McNeil, 67, and Gerard Sherman, 44, died following the Nov. 5 accident, the Charleston County coroner announced the next day.
Around 2:30 p.m., their vehicle drove off a portion of the 700 block of River Road that passes over a creek connected to the Stono River. River Road is a highly traveled section of Johns Island.
The St. John’s Fire District Rescue entered the water in an attempt to access the interior of the vehicle, but access was “difficult and unsuccessful,” Fire Chief Ryan Kunitzer said.
