SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has begun installing temporary lighting on the Memorial Bridge, which connects Springfield and West Springfield via Route 147.
Work began Tuesday, Nov. 4, according to MassDOT, and will continue over the coming weeks.
The project aims to enhance safety and restore illumination ahead of the holiday season, providing sufficient lighting for both drivers and pedestrians. “I’m pleased we are able to work with key stakeholders, especially the city of Springfield, to provide a temporary lighting solution that enhances driver and pedestrian safety, while we continue to pursue the permanent restoration of lighting on the Memorial Bridge,” said Undersecretary and State Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver.
