HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Office of Hawaiian Affairs issued a statement on the passing of former OHA trustee Rownea Akana Thursday morning.
OHA Chair Kai Kahele shared the following words about the woman who served in different roles on the board during her tenure.
“It is with profound respect and sadness that we honor the late Rowena Akana, who devoted nearly three decades in service as a Trustee at the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. Though her tenure was marked by challenges, her commitment to community, Native Hawaiian lands, and strengthening resources for our people reflects the deep sense of ʻohana and stewardship she carried.
