WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - In addressing complaints and violations with some Wichita hotels and motels, the city council took action with unanimous approval of an ordinance to crack down on problems associated with the establishments .
Specifically, the new ordinance creates a citywide licensing system for Wichita hotels and motels. The ordinance aims to give the City of Wichita more power to address health, safety and criminal complaints at the establishments.
Additionally, new rules will ban hourly rates and enforce the requirement to keep conditions clean.
When the then-proposed ordinance was introduced, the City of Wichita clarified that the Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department, as well as the police and fire departments, would investigate the complaints.
