WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — On Thursday afternoon, the prosecution and defense rested in the case against a man accused of shooting a teen, leaving him paralyzed.
Ruben Contreras is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery.
On May 11, 2024, police were dispatched to the Walmart in Goddard, where authorities said Anakin Zehring, who was 18 at the time, was with two other teens and had fired a toy gel blaster in the parking lot.
A toy gel blaster is a toy gun that fires polymer water beads. The probable cause affidavit in the case said the teens were playing "senior assassin," a game that was "being played at Goddard High School in which students shoot at other students with water guns."
One of the beads struck Contreras' daughter. She called her dad, who, police said
