FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Fresno State is reacting to a new law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom.

It's called the SAFE Act, and it aims to alert students if immigration enforcement officers are on campuses across California.

It was signed in September, and now the university is implementing its procedures for how it will comply with the new law.

"It just really just jeopardizes the student safety as far as like even nonstudents, like, they can be caught in the crossfire," Fresno State student Chris White said.

White and his friends learned about the act on Thursday from an email sent by President Saul Jimenez Sandoval.
