Fox Sports has parted ways with NFL analyst and former quarterback Mark Sanchez following his October arrest in Indianapolis.

ESPN reported Friday, Nov. 7 that Sanchez “will not return” as he faces trial in connection with an alleged attack on a truck driver last month.

The move comes as Fox adds Super Bowl champion and future Hall of Famer Drew Brees as an NFL game analyst. This hire positions the 46-year-old Brees to take Sanchez’s place alongside play-by-play announcer Adam Amin, according to multiple reports.

Sanchez was stabbed during an early-October incident in downtown Indianapolis and arrested on three charges: battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. Prosecutors then upgraded the case to include a felony count of battery resulting in serious bodily injury

The case involves a 69-year-old delivery truck driver, whom Sanchez is accused of attacking. Sanchez, 38, is now facing trial stemming from the incident.

Both men were treated for injuries after the altercation, which unfolded while Sanchez was in town to work an NFL broadcast for Fox.

The fallout has extended beyond the criminal case: the alleged victim has also filed a civil lawsuit connected to the incident, according to reporting on the case’s aftermath.

Fox’s decision to move on from Sanchez became clear Friday, with the network not expecting him back in the NFL booth as his case proceeds.

In the near term, Brees will slide into game analyst duties and is expected to call games with Adam Amin, essentially taking Sanchez’s slot on the network’s NFL roster.
