INA, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Rend Lake Conservancy District received a $64,613.86 Energy Transition Community Grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity recently.

The grant aims to support communities affected by coal mine closures.

RLCD plans to use the funds for marketing and investments to enhance tourism, recreation, and business development.

"Rend Lake’s tourism spending is a boon to Franklin County businesses," said RLCD General Manager Gary Williams.

Williams said they intend to attract more visitors to enjoy the area's recreational assets.
