MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Salvation Army is preparing for the holiday season with its 2025 Red Kettle Campaign.
The campaign aims to raise $250,000 to support Southern Illinoisans. Organizers emphasized that every dollar donated in Southern Illinois will stay in the area to help local individuals and families in need.
Darla Harms with the Salvation Army of Southern Illinois said they need both donations and volunteers to sign up as bell ringers.
“An unmanned kettle brings in no money. So every kettle where somebody is bell ringing is going to bring in money to the Salvation Army,” Harms said.
The Salvation Army and other social services are seeking more help this year to meet the growing needs.
"If we all do a little, then, we can certainly help a lot of people," Harms said.
