NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — A North Charleston police officer drew his weapon on a Fort Dorchester High School student Thursday morning after reports that the teen had a gun on campus.
Police said a staff member told the school resource officer that a student claimed to have a firearm. When the officer approached the student in the cafeteria, the department said the student told him he had a weapon.
The officer then drew his gun and ordered the student to the ground, according to police. No one was hurt, and no weapon was found.
Attorney Jerod Frazier, who represents the family, said the 16-year-old, who has autism, was referring to his handheld Nintendo Switch game console when he said “a switch.”
Frazier said the teen complied immediately when confronted.
